GGG Custom Wah

This wah-wah "kit" is really just a PCB that is sold by GGG. What makes this wah-wah novel is the ability to switch between 2 different inductors (or put both inductors in series), and a 5-way switch that allows stacking of capacitors to change the tonal window that the throw of the wah inhabits. We've obtained a spare wah-wah shell for this project. If you'd like to do this yourself, you can find an inexpensive shell cannibalized from a broken wah-wah at a music repair store or online auction.

Thermionic Studios has two(2) GGG Custom Wah PCBs. When we finish assembling them, like all our other Wahs, they will likely each be given names, get their own pages where they will each be described for their idiosyncrasies, and, ultimately yes, available for rental.

Controls

  1. Wah Treadle: Controls the sweep of the wah filter
  2. On/Off Button: Accessed at top of the treadle throw
  3. Inductor Select: 3-way switch on right side of pedal
  4. Tone Select: 5-way rotary switch on right side of pedal for selecting desired capacitor window

Bypass: True

The GGG Custom Wah is true bypass.

General Information

The GGG site states that the wah modifications on this PCB are based on Gerben Koopman's wah-wah, but online searches on Mr. Gerben Koopman or his wah-wah pedal end up linking back to the GGG site, or linking to webpages that have long been link-rotten.

We intend on using the Dunlop Red Fasel and the Dunlop Yellow Fasel as our inductors on this wah-wah.

We plan on including/installing a red/green LED along with the inductor switch to indicate when

  • the Red Fasel is engaged (as indicated by red),
  • the Yellow Fasel is engaged (as indicated by yellow), or
  • when both inductors are engaged (as indicated by green).

Side note: when red and green elements are both lit in an LED, yellow, or amber tends to be the color emitted

Pedal Manual

General Guitar Gadgets has not issued a manual on how to use the GGG Custom Wah.

Phase Inversion: Yes/No

Despite lack of a schematic, we tend to believe that because there are two transistors in this pedal, that it will not invert phase while in operation. Until we finish building out our GGG Custom Wah, we won't be able to confirm whether or not this holds true.

Schematic

General Guitar Gadgets has not issued a schematic for the GGG Custom Wah. Our searches have not found anything either.

Artists

We are currently unaware of any artists actively using the pedal now, or who have in the past.
