Controls
- Miniknob 1 - "Volume": Located on the left side of the pedal, when facing the top down, the volume miniknob controls the volume level of the phasing effect. Totally counter-clockwise is an almost-inaudible signal, and totally clockwise, to our ears is a volume level that is just slightly under unity gain. We'll be modifying this so that at the very least unity gain is possible, but more than likely also that more than unity gain would be a possibility.
- Miniknob 2 - "Width": Also located on the left side of the pedal, when facing the top down, the depth miniknob controls the width of the phase cycle that the phaser effect will be traversing. Fully counter-clockwise is an extremely narrow phase window, with that window opening wider and wider as this miniknob is turned clockwise.
- Treadle - "Speed": The extreme heel-down position cycles the phase effect slowly, rocking the treadle to the extreme toe-down position cycles the phasing effect very rapidly.
- Pressure Switch - "On/Off": Unlike most treadled-pedals that you'll encounter that are activated by a mechanical footswitch in the extreme toe-down position, this pedal is activated by applying pressure to the treadle itself. Pressure on the treadle turns the effect into "active" or "engaged" mode (on), and removing your foot returns the effect to "bypassed" (off) mode. Taking your foot off the treadle will cause the pedal to revert to a default heel-down "home" position.
There is another effect by Dunlop that uses pressure on the treadle itself for turning on and off: the 95-Q Wah-wah. The 95-Q also turns on-and-off by means of pressure on the treadle. We actually think that such a mechanism is a very helpful means of turning on an effect, as it requires far less thought and effort on the part of the musician. However, from a technical standpoint, it's hard to either modify such, or keep this kind of switch and the associated mechanics clean.
