Here are pedal kits that are/were offered by Fuzzdog in the UK. We take no position on the kits and PCBs that Fuzz Dog makes available. We have purchased a number of PCBs from Fuzzdog in order to ensure that we have certain vintage pedals available for rental. We do not believe in undercutting existing pedal manufacturers who offer original pedals at reasonable prices. Fuzzdog offers many such pedals in order for people to get a "more affordable" version of a pedal that's currently being offered for sale. Barring a few special exceptions, we will not rent such pedals despite the fact we've accidentally purchased a couple of such pedals or PCBs.
+
Please note for the kits and PCBs that they are selling, Fuzzdog now includes the names of the original pedals. The term they use is '''''"Inspired By"'''''.

If you want a pedal that makes a certain sound and that pedal is still in production, we advise you purchase that pedal. While it may seem cheaper to build the pedal yourself, this does not include the price of the soldering station, or the other incidentals that you have to get in order to do the actual work to assemble a pedal. Now, there are certain pedal manufacturers that charge exorbitant prices for pedals that have very little, in terms of components, to them: their cost is maybe $25.00 of parts.  It is often also the case that such pedals come from electronic schematics that were worked out long ago. We have little sympathy for such pedal manufacturers when they make such pedals and then charge exhorbitant prices. We believe it to be perfectly ethical to clone and make available such pedals when those certain manufacturers are demonstrably preying on customers' lack of information.
+
Please also be informed that with Fuzzdog now calling out the pedals being cloned or "inspired by", we will no longer be actively updating this list. If you'd like to submit updates, we'll be happy to accept and update accordingly, but doing so will not be a priority. Thank you.

Despite our moralizing and finger-wagging, if there are vintage pedals that you're looking to get and they're either not available or perhaps they're only available because they are rare and expensive, and no longer being made, we think it's entirely reasonable to not want to spend stupid amounts of money for something that only might, from an audio standpoint, give you the sound that you want. Vintage pedals are dying as the components burn up, and as estates have stuff that get pitched in the trash. In addition to vintage pedals, there are other cases wherein a pedal was made with a very small distribution (like the Kendrick Amplifiers "Buffalo Pfuz"). There are other cases where a certain model of pedal was made in a small batch for a particular artist (like the "Brian May Treble Boost"). In these cases as well, we endorse the recreation of pedals and/or effects that have been effectively abandoned by the original manufacturer.
+
We have no idea if Fuzzdog found this list and used it to fill in the information for most of their pages, or simply used it as an impetus to fill in the corresponding information. Most likely, they're oblivious to this page and did it on their own. A quick spot-check on our part using a random sample of different pedals on their site seems to match up, so... In either case we'll accept their updated practice as flattery.

In any event, there are a number of pedals that are interesting that are no longer available from the manufacturer that originally developed them. In these cases, you would be well advised to either rent our version, or, if you wanted to make a bigger investment, to build your own.
+
There's one nice outcome from this, and that's that Fuzzdog has filled in any remaining holes. We've updated accordingly. Every entry should have a corresponding match.

And no, despite doing this for ourselves for what we consider to be legitimate business reasons, we are not a "for-hire" pedal assembly shop.
+
The pedals in the lists below that are linked are pedals that we've purchased and are or will be making available.

Here are pedal kits that are/were offered by Fuzzdog in the UK. We take no position on the kits and PCBs that Fuzz Dog makes available. We have purchased a number of PCBs from Fuzzdog in order to ensure that we have certain vintage-style pedals (meaning the guts are the same, or work-alike) available for rental. We do not believe in undercutting existing pedal manufacturers who offer original pedals at reasonable prices. Fuzzdog offers many such pedals in order for people to get a "more affordable" version of a pedal that's currently being offered for sale. Barring a few special exceptions, we will neither build, nor rent such pedals despite the fact we've accidentally purchased a couple of such pedals or PCBs.

; Thanks to Aelfric (06-Oct-2018) for updates to the list!: (7 of Dwarves Auto Wah, Dirty Kazoo, Emperor Dual OD, Green Stinger, Juicy Blue Dynamic Bass OD, Moon Unit, Spectre Verb)

If you want a pedal that makes a certain sound and that pedal is still in production by the original manufacturer, we advise you purchase that pedal, or rent ours. While it may seem cheaper to build the pedal yourself, please be reminded that this does not include the price of the soldering station, the necessary testing tools (to consistently build working pedals), or the other incidentals that you have to get in order to do the actual work to assemble a pedal (Drill motor or Drill Press, Bits, parts cabinets, etc...).

; Thanks to Unkle Phil (04-Mar-2019) for updates to the list!: (Angry Chuck, Angry Andy, Cone Cranker, Dirt Dealer Fuzz, Eagle Claw OD, Eight Two Zero, Electrica +, Libido Boost, Mad Mule, Ocean Engine Chorus, Ramesses Fuzz, Sandbank Drive)

Now, there are certain pedal manufacturers that charge exorbitant prices for pedals that have very little, in terms of components. To these manufacturers, more often than not their cost is maybe $25.00 worth of parts. It is often also the case that such pedals come from electronic schematics that were worked out long ago by someone else. We have little sympathy for such pedal manufacturers when people make clones of their pedals because these manufacturers are charging exorbitant prices for circuits that they themselves have copied. We believe it to be perfectly ethical to clone and make available such pedals when those certain manufacturers are demonstrably preying on customers' lack of information, and are in effect, building, selling, and misrepresenting these clones as original work they did themselves.

; Thanks to Aelfric (24-Apr-2018) for additional updates to the list: '''Newly identified''': Amber Chuck V4, Beast Overdrive, BeeBaa Fuzz, Cream Buff, Deep Vibes Optical Vibe Machine, Dr. Boogie Distortion, English Channel, FuzzPup Maestro MFZ-1 Fuzz, FuzzPup Rodent, Goliath Space Fuzz, Green Citrus, Jubbly Drive, Just The Meat, Klon Buffer, Logical Bass Pre-Amp, Maestro MFZ-1 Fuzz, Micro V Filter, Muffled Gun Fuzz, Octave Master, Octavia, Octo Factory, Pep Box, Range Master Plus Si/Ge, RunOffGroove Ginger, Simple Compressor, Sonic Tight'un Distortion, Spooky Mids Filter, String Stinger Drive, Supreme Being Fuzz, Two Dozen Silvertones!, WestWorld Drive, White Cliffs Drive, Yellow Purl Drive '''Updates''': 19 Bells Fuzz (Pink Pig), 19 Bells Fuzz (The Bell), Analog-like Echo, Bazz Fuzz, Box of Tone 50, BuzzAround, Cherub Chorus, Ex-Con Overdrive, FuzzPup Crusher, FuzzPup Second Channel, Graphic Fuzz, Gristleizer, HaraKiri Overlord, HellGazer, Little Screamer, Little Screamer (Forever), Little Screamer (Forever Explosion), Lunar Shot, Maximus Distortium, Moon Unit, Morning Wood Drive, One Knob Fuzz, One Knob Fuzz (Thug), Pitbull, Super Skwisher, Supreaux Bolt, The Verb, Thug DeLuxe, Thug Fuzz, Tone Ripper, Toxic Minx (Dist+), Toxic Minx (OD250), Treble Deluxe, Vintage Pow, Vintage Pow (with charge pump)

Despite our moralizing and finger-wagging, if there are vintage pedals that you're looking to get and those pedals are either not available or perhaps they're only available because they are rare and expensive, but are no longer being made, we think it's entirely reasonable to not want to spend stupid amounts of money for something that only might, from an audio standpoint, give you the sound that you want. Vintage pedals continue to die as components age out or burn up, and as people who own these things die, and as the curators of various estates, not knowing the utility and value, inadvertently pitch these treasures into the trash.
 +

 +
In addition to vintage pedals, there are other cases wherein a pedal may have been made with a very small run and limited distribution (like the Kendrick Amplifiers "Buffalo Pfuz"). There are other cases where a certain model of pedal was made in a small batch for a particular artist (like the "Brian May Treble Boost"). In these cases as well, we endorse the re-creation of such pedals and/or effects that have been effectively abandoned by the original manufacturer.
 +

 +
In any event, there are a number of pedals that are interesting that are no longer available from the manufacturer that originally developed them. In these cases, you would be well advised to either borrow or rent someone else's pedal, or, if you wanted to make a bigger investment, build your own.
 +

 +
And no, despite the fact that here at Thermionic Studios, we have built and continue to build pedals for the purpose of renting them out, we are not a "for-hire" pedal assembly shop.  Of course, everything is negotiable, but we think you'd likely decide that the price we'd charge for building your pedal in a timely manner isn't worth your money.

== Origins ==
 +
This is a list that was pulled originally from a British site with a discussion thread called [http://www.thefretboard.co.uk/discussion/15803/poodle-pedal-parts-emporium-decoded The Fretboard: Poodle Pedal Parts Emporium Decoded]. This list also contains our most recent review of the site and the "clone" pedals that Fuzzdog offers (As of 15-Sep-2020). In having added to this list we've at least doubled it. The exciting part is that this means that since May 2014, Fuzzdog has practically doubled the inventory of offerings available to build pedals. Whether or not these PCBs are still available...? You'll have to check with Fuzzdog...
 +

 +
We are recreating and providing the list here (and occasionally updating it) for no other use than for us here at Thermionic Studios to reference. It may also serve to help provide guidance if someone is looking to recreate a vintage pedal that's no longer in production and might find here the means for doing so.  And no, our pedals aren't for sale, only rental.
 +

 +
While we've done our best to be as thorough as possible, you'll see in the lists below that there are cases where there is no corresponding original pedal name. In those cases where there is not a match, it means that:
 +
* None was provided by from the original discussion thread, or,
 +
* New pedal kits have been created and offered by Fuzzdog since the original posting, or,
 +
* There are no hints from the text at the Fuzzdog website helping anyone clue into which pedal is being cloned, or,
 +
* Despite our attempts (or the attempts of additional contributors) to determine which is the original pedal, we have not been able find a match, or,
 +
* It may be a Fuzzdog original and therefore has no "match".
 +

 +
If you're aware of a match that we don't have listed, please contact us and let us know, we'll be happy to give you credit!
 +

=== Discontinued? ===
 +
Certain letter groupings below have an additional column, "Discontinued?".  This is to call out pedal kits or pcbs that were at one time manufactured by Fuzzdog, but no longer appear to be available.
 +

 +
That is all. Cheers.

; Thanks to Unkle Phil (02-May-2019) for additional updates to the list!: (Bad Mofo Bass Overdrive Preamp, Brass Blender Octo Factory, FA-1 FET Preamp, Hyper Fuzz, Impossibility Drive, Karlito Loves Fuzz, Pittbull, Verb Machine, Vintage Vox Drive)

Mark Dancer explains (email to Thermionic Studios dated 07-Apr-2021)!
 +
<blockquote>
 +
<div style="background-color:#222222; border:2px solid #e69710; padding:10px; {{border-radius|8px}}">
 +
I know this one seems a bit strange, saying that a Fuzz Dog pedal that is marketed as a tremolo is a clone of a pedal that is marketed as a vibrato, but
 +
# the Magnavibe has a range of settings where it sounds more like a wobbly tremolo than a vibrato; and
 +
# the Magnatone amps had a "tremolo" circuit that modulated the pitch rather than the volume (i.e., it was a vibrato).
 +
</div>
 +
</blockquote>
 +

 +
Thanks Mark!

The Fuzzdog "Fuzzpups" are simply very narrow PCBs that have been designed to fit inside of a Hammond 1590G style enclosure. These enclosures are so narrow that the input and output jacks have to be offset from one another lest the tips of the RST (Ring-Sleeve-Tip) jacks collide. They've been designed to be this narrow so many many pedals can be arranged one right next to another for maximimizing the use of space that is otherwise limited by the physical dimensions of a musician's pedalboard.

==Origins==
+
== Buffers ==
This is a list that was pulled originally from a British site with a discussion thread called [http://www.thefretboard.co.uk/discussion/15803/poodle-pedal-parts-emporium-decoded The Fretboard: Poodle Pedal Parts Emporium Decoded]. This list also contains our most recent review of the site and the "clone" pedals that Fuzzdog offers (As of 24-Mar-2019). In having added to this list we've at least doubled it. The exciting part is that this means that since May 2014, Fuzzdog has practically doubled the inventory of offerings available to build pedals. Whether or not these PCBs are still available...? You'll have to check with Fuzzdog...
+
Fuzzdog has made a few different line/pedal buffers available in case there is a need for clarity or to boost what would otherwise be a loss of high-end with the desire to use a lot of true-bypass pedals. While it's "true bypass" by itself can be fine and acceptable when there are one or two pedals in an instrument chain and as long as the cord length to the amp is short. As instrument chain lengths get longer and as the number of pedals in the chain increase, the need for a buffer or two also increases.

We are recreating and providing the list here (and occasionally updating it) for no other use than for us here at Thermionic Studios to reference. It may also serve to help provide guidance if someone is looking to recreate a vintage pedal that's no longer in production and might find here the means for doing so.

NOTICE

06-Jan-2022
Updated 31-Oct-2022

Please note for the kits and PCBs that they are selling, Fuzzdog now includes the names of the original pedals. The term they use is "Inspired By".

Please also be informed that with Fuzzdog now calling out the pedals being cloned or "inspired by", we will no longer be actively updating this list. If you'd like to submit updates, we'll be happy to accept and update accordingly, but doing so will not be a priority. Thank you.

There's one nice outcome from this, and that's that Fuzzdog has filled in any remaining holes. We've updated accordingly. Every entry should have a corresponding match.

The pedals in the lists below that are linked are pedals that we've purchased and are or will be making available.

General Info

In any event, there are a number of pedals that are interesting that are no longer available from the manufacturer that originally developed them. In these cases, you would be well advised to either borrow or rent someone else's pedal, or, if you wanted to make a bigger investment, build your own.

Origins

This is a list that was pulled originally from a British site with a discussion thread called The Fretboard: Poodle Pedal Parts Emporium Decoded.

While we've done our best to be as thorough as possible, you'll see in the lists below that there are cases where there is no corresponding original pedal name. In those cases where there is not a match, it means that:

  • None was provided by from the original discussion thread, or,
  • New pedal kits have been created and offered by Fuzzdog since the original posting, or,
  • There are no hints from the text at the Fuzzdog website helping anyone clue into which pedal is being cloned, or,
  • Despite our attempts (or the attempts of additional contributors) to determine which is the original pedal, we have not been able find a match, or,
  • It may be a Fuzzdog original and therefore has no "match".

If you're aware of a match that we don't have listed, please contact us and let us know, we'll be happy to give you credit!

Discontinued?

Certain letter groupings below have an additional column, "Discontinued?". This is to call out pedal kits or pcbs that were at one time manufactured by Fuzzdog, but no longer appear to be available.

That is all. Cheers.

Mark Dancer explains (email to Thermionic Studios dated 07-Apr-2021)!

I know this one seems a bit strange, saying that a Fuzz Dog pedal that is marketed as a tremolo is a clone of a pedal that is marketed as a vibrato, but

  1. the Magnavibe has a range of settings where it sounds more like a wobbly tremolo than a vibrato; and
  2. the Magnatone amps had a "tremolo" circuit that modulated the pitch rather than the volume (i.e., it was a vibrato).

Thanks Mark!

Fuzzpups

The Fuzzdog "Fuzzpups" are simply very narrow PCBs that have been designed to fit inside of a Hammond 1590G style enclosure. These enclosures are so narrow that the input and output jacks have to be offset from one another lest the tips of the RST (Ring-Sleeve-Tip) jacks collide. They've been designed to be this narrow so many many pedals can be arranged one right next to another for maximimizing the use of space that is otherwise limited by the physical dimensions of a musician's pedalboard.

Buffers

Fuzzdog has made a few different line/pedal buffers available in case there is a need for clarity or to boost what would otherwise be a loss of high-end with the desire to use a lot of true-bypass pedals. While it's "true bypass" by itself can be fine and acceptable when there are one or two pedals in an instrument chain and as long as the cord length to the amp is short. As instrument chain lengths get longer and as the number of pedals in the chain increase, the need for a buffer or two also increases.
