Bitchin 70s Proto Metal Tracks
Posted by Zander on Tuesday, 5 November 2013
Magic occured tonight. There was a confluence of results such that youTube offered up a fantastic listing of circa-1970 proto-metal.
I've never experienced YouTube offer up a selection like this. Bands I'd never heard of. Bands I may never see on a similar random search of youTube again.
Rather than gush on. I'll just provide the links as they were provided to me. Don't worry, I'll also provide a little context.

The Human Instinct. "Stoned Guitar" (1970: Full Album). Never heard this one before! For the era and for a relatively obscure band, I think this is quite good! - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UdSp-0WsyDs
Sir Lord Baltimore. "Kingdom Come" (1970: Full Album). This has since become a cult classic. Not the best example of the period in my opinion. - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KkGcABw8LHw
Suck. From South Africa. "Time to Suck" (1970: Full Album). Holy shit, this is kind of awesome. A 1970 remake of Black Sabbath's War Pigs? Wow. - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F4DyCWxm5IQ
Awesome. Budgie rocks. This album has the original version of Breadfan that was redone in excellent fashion by Metallica. I own this on CD. Quality. - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RkskPqkNYTc
Ultimate Spinach. self-titled (1968: Full Album). I didn't think I cared for it. But track #7, "Baroque #1", suggests the heaviness of an era fast approaching. - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wuVkwncPpaw
Foghat. self-titled (1972: Full Album). Shitty name. Great Band. Awesome freshman effort. It was genius to record Lonesome Dave overloading the mic on track #1. - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sGGzwGbidGQ
Truth and Janey. "Erupts" (1975: Full Album). Live. This is definitely a backward-looking effort. In 3 years the world of Rock would be changed by EVH.
