The Boss RC-2 Loop Station Pedal, is Boss's original attempt at constructing a pedal that would allow a musician to either:
- pre-record loops for subsequent performance playback, or
- record loops during performance to allow the possibility of more extendable and extended "jam" session performances.
Subsequent Versions:
- RC-3
- RC-1
The Boss RC-2 is no longer being made.
- Thermionic Studios has one (1) RC-2 available for rental.
Controls
- Knob 1 - "Level": This is a dual-knob with an inner- and outer- knob, controlling two separate volume controls
- Inner Knob - "Guide": Volume level for the drum tracks built into the pedal. Clockwise increases the volume.
- Outer Knob - "Phrase": Volume level for the recorded loops saved into the pedal. Clockwise increases the volume.
- Knob 2 - "Phrase Select":
- Button 1 - "Tap Tempo": This button is used to set the tempo of the phrase selected. This button also has a small light in its center which cycles between red (beat 1) and green (beats remaining in phrase).
- Knob 1 - "Mode": Select from among the listed Modes below
- Write
- Delete
- 4/4
- (musical note) (3/4)
- One-shot Playback
- Auto - light flickers "on standby", as soon as you start playing the pedal begins recording the loop
- Rec/Playback - Tap pedal in order to begin recording
- Tempo-Tap
Jacks
- Jack "A" - "Aux In":
- Jack 1 - "In":
- Jack 2 - "Out":
- Jack 3 - "Stop / Tempo":
Bypass: Buffered
Like all Boss pedals, the RC-2 has a buffered bypass.

Pedal Manual
Phase Inversion: Unknown
As there is no schematic, there's no means, outside of an oscilloscope, by which to determine if this pedal inverts the phase of the incoming signal. However, based on our experience with previous Boss pedals, we believe this pedal does not invert phase.
Schematic
Attempts to find a schematic have been completely fruitless. We are unaware of any schematic, and are not surprised as we understand this pedal to be a digital device with the controls running from software, not hardware. In such an instance, a schematic is not helpful to any educational or modification efforts.
Artists
We are currently unaware of any artists actively using the pedal now, or who have in the past.
